Spearphishing has hit the big screen!
The action-thriller was filmed in the Woodlands County and Whitecourt area last year. It follows the adventures of a small town cop when Russian mobsters come into his county and start stirring up trouble.
The film had its world premiere at Whitecourt’s Vista Theatre on Saturday. Director Tim McKort was thrilled that the day was finally here.
“We are feeling 127%! Everything’s going really really well. It’s a beautiful day, we’ve got a great crowd…it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said McKort.
Woodlands County mayor John Burrows was in attendance for the premiere.
In his opening remarks, he said he was really excited to see the county and surrounding area showcased on the big screen. “Maybe they’ll like the way Woodlands County and the area looks on film, and [more filmmakers] will come here in the future,” said Burrows.
Also in attendance was Mayerthorpe mayor Janet Jabush. The film’s hockey game was filmed at the Mayerthrope arena, and mayor Jabush herself even makes a cameo as a hockey fan.
She thanked McKort for using local businesses in the film saying that McKort “made good use of the local arena, used local catering, and found a few local crewpeople. I couldn’t be happier to be part of the film!”
You still have two more chances to see Spearphishing at the Vista Theatre. It’ll be playing on July 31 and August 1 at 11:30AM. Tickets are $10. DVDs will be available at McKort’s website, alittlelatefilms.ca, later this fall.
