The town of Whitecourt is getting ready to reopen the town’s economy. At the town’s June 28 meeting, council was presented with a report from Ballard Consulting on how COVID has impacted Whitecourt’s economy. Mayor Maryann Chechik says the report says the town can help by expanding on existing programs, such as the patio program. “It really improved the development permits and shortened the timeline,” said Chechik.
The report also looks forward to the future, to help businesses grow. Mayor Chechik says it’s not just about business retention, but also helping them expand and diversify, and bring in different opportunities for investment.
The report will now be given to the Economic Development Committee to turn it into a workable plan. The report is available on the town’s website, whitecourt.ca, for those who’d like to check it out.
