AFPA, Forestry Minister on Softwood Tax Announced by US

The news isn’t as bad as first thought but it’s not something the Canadian or Alberta governments are a fan of.  The US Department of Commerce said that the final duties imposed on Canadian softwood lumber will be slightly north of 20 percent.

The original announcement was more than 26 percent on lumber products being exported from Canada.

Director of Communications for the Alberta Forest Products Association, Brock Mulligan, on the message they’re now sending to their provincial members.

Both the Federal and Provincial governments made statements Thursday, with Forestry Minister Oneil Carlier and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Daron Bilous saying they stand firmly behind Alberta families, workers and communities that rely on a strong forestry industry.
