An incident in Barrhead last week where a stolen vehicle smashed up a police car was preventable, according to Alberta RCMP.

They say more and more vehicle thefts are due to owners leaving their cars running and unlocked.  Since the start of October, more than 1400 vehicles have been taken unlawfully and a large portion of them are due to the neglect by operators.

A second incident in Red Deer this week also put people’s safety in jeopardy.  Fortunately, in either incident, no one was hurt.
