Some new rules will come into place in just a few weeks for Barrhead landlords.
Come the New Year, the town is moving to have utilities accounts opened in the name of landlords, instead of tenants.
The move it to prevent tenants from moving out and leaving with a balance owing to the town. This will bring Barrhead in line with a majority of other Alberta towns and cities.
Barrhead’s CAO, Martin Taylor says the annual cost to the town is small but adding up.
There will be a transition period for landlords when the new rules come into place.
Tenants who are in good standing with the town will also be allowed to continue on in their current structure until they relocate.
