Yellowhead MP Jim Eglinski has announced his retirement from politics.

On Tuesday Eglinski said he will not run in the next election, leaving to focus on his family instead.

Eglinski has spent 52 years in public service, including 35 years as a member of the RCMP before retiring from that career and then pursuing politics.

He spent two years as a city councillor in Fort St. John before relocating to Yellowhead County.

He will stay on as a Member of Parliament until the position is dissolved.
