February is Heart Month, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation is focusing this month on women’s heart health.
The foundation’s latest heart report says women’s heart health is misunderstood and not managed well enough. The report found that early warning signs of heart attack were missed in 78 percent of women.
Kate Chidester, Alberta’s Heart and Stroke Vice President for Advocacy of Health and Research, says it’s important for women to know about risk factors and signs of a heart condition.
Heart disease is the number one cause of premature death for women in Canada, but Chidester says women are less likely to see a doctor about concerns because they take care of everyone else before themselves.
