The Alberta Government and the RCMP announced March 9th that millions of dollars in funding and resources will go to help fight against rural crime.
Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kathleen Ganley on the funding for the seven-part strategy.
The money will fund an additional 39 RCMP officers, 40 new civilian staff members, and more Crown prosecutors.
The strategies will help give officers more available resources to work with in rural communities by creating more crime reduction units, and having more civilian staff in offices will put more police on the streets.
Last year, a report found that rural crime rates in some parts of Alberta had jumped by more than 250 percent since 2011.
