With the legalization of cannabis on the horizon, communities are starting to get their ducks in a row as they prepare for a major shift in the status norm. Whitecourt’s planning department are exploring what bylaws need to be updated ahead of ending the prohibition.

The province has put rules into place, such as no one entity can have more than 15 percent of the market place. Communities are allowed to further limit that if they wish but it’s not something Chichak and the town are openly looking at.
Calgary has recently passed a bylaw to ban public consumption, meaning users will be confined to their homes to legally smoke up.
