There was noted damage along the Athabasca River in Whitecourt, following last month’s ice jam.

Parts of the bank, just east of the Whitecourt Golf and Country Club were washed away, as the water level rose.

What the banks looked like before the ice jam.

It’s a layered and complex restoration process according to Mayor Maryann Chichak.

When asked if the Riverside Trail would need to be relocated due to its proximity to the water, Chichak said administration and the engineers would be having discussions about the path’s future location.
