Whitecourt RCMP and Emergency Services responded to a panicked group of tubers on the McLeod River Thursday evening.

The people tubing ended up passing the cutoff point near the Highway 43 bridge and entering the Athabasca River.

Last weekend’s extensive rain has caused water levels and debris on the McLeod to rise and the flow rate has increased to be very fast.

Staff Sergeant Ryan Comaniuk wants to remind people to stay off the McLeod River for the time being.

The RCMP sent up a helicopter and put boats in the river for rescue protocol, but the tubers did end up making it to the bank safely and no injuries were reported.
