The Edson and District Recreation Complex may still be standing for a little while longer, after Yellowhead County Council moved to advise the town they do not support the demolition of the complex and will not share the costs.
Edson is currently at a crossroads on how to proceed with the building moving forward. The complex was closed in February from asbestos and in June the town announced it wishes to demolish the building as early as this Fall.
Edson Mayor Kevin Zahara on the decision to demolish.
Zahara says Edson council appreciates the County’s different position on the decision to demolish but notes that the town owns the building and has put the most investment into it, therefore it is the town’s decision to make.
Zahara went on to say the town is planning on building a new centrally located multi-use facility with Yellowhead County in the next few years and would like to focus attention on that project.
