The Yellowhead County Fire Department recently received a generous donation from Pembina Pipelines to fund for a new program. The fire department was given $3 000 dollars that will be used to offer equipment for the newly developed Fire Cadet Program.
The department is among more than 50 fire departments across Canada and the US to receive funding from Pembina Pipeline Corporation through their annual Fire Safety Grant. The Fire Cadet Program was created to guide teens towards a prospective career in the field of protective services but also aims to teach teens crucial life and career skills.
Through the progress of their training, cadets are eligible for a total of 9 credits towards their high school diploma. Pembina’s annual Fire Safety Grant opens every year in the spring, and provides funding to fire department and emergency responders in communities near Pembina’s operations.
