Whitecourt Council were presented with a report on landfill fees this week to look over and discussed the fee schedule being enforced to residents.

Fee schedules have been in place for many years but not consistently enforced for town and county residents. Enforcing them now will help preserve the lifespan of the landfill.

Mayor Maryann Chichak on the system.

Residents are allowed up to 300lbs of bagged household waste items for free.

The fee schedule was introduced to help control the amount of waste coming into the landfill and serves as a user pay system on non-household waste items.

Chichak says she would like residents to recycle more items or give them away instead of putting them in the landfill to help increase the diversion rate.

Landfill rates can be found on the Town of Whitecourt website.
