Living Waters Catholic Schools support staff went on strike this morning at all Division schools as well as at Division headquarters in Whitecourt.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Bargaining Committee first served the Board a notice of strike action on Monday, saying that if matters between the two sides were not resolved, workers would walk off the job starting today.

Living Waters support staff have been asking for a wage increase and better working hours in bargaining since 2016.

On Thursday, the two sides were back at the table to negotiate, however, no agreement was reached and the AUPE informed the Board they would proceed with strike action.

Vice-President with AUPE, Rod Feland on yesterday’s unsuccessful meeting.

In a statement, Living Waters says wages in the Division are comparable or exceed those in other Divisions and have already made offers during bargaining that were not accepted by the AUPE.

Living Waters added that they wish to continue bargaining to find a resolution.
