Local Municipalities Holding Cannabis Info Sessions Ahead of Legalization

As the October 17th date gets closer for cannabis to become legalized, municipalities are preparing themselves ahead of time.

A number of public information sessions and hearings will be taking place over the next one to two weeks.

The Town of Mayerthorpe will be holding a public hearing on Monday, October 9th at their regular council meeting regarding the proposed town bylaws.

Council will introduce a new bylaw in regards to cannabis consumption and gain public input before giving a second and third reading to their amended land use bylaw.

The Town of Fox Creek will also hold an information session ahead of legalization to review proposed amendments to their Land Use Bylaw, as well as the proposed Business Licence Bylaw and Smoke-Free Public Spaces Bylaw. The session will be held on October 9th in Council Chambers and will highlight the points of each bylaw for the public’s knowledge.

Edson will also hold their public hearing on the cannabis-related land use changes in Town on October 16th in Council Chambers.
