Whitecourt Town Council Passes Cannabis Consumption Bylaw

Whitecourt Town Council officially passed the new consumption of cannabis bylaw yesterday at their meeting.

Council members voted 5-2 to give the 2nd and 3rd reading to Bylaw 1475-1, which is now being enforced and prohibits the recreational use of cannabis in all public places within Whitecourt.

Mayor Maryann Chichak on the potential for seeing the bylaw change as time goes on.

Council was presented with feedback from the cannabis surveys conducted last month and saw that about 64% of the 164 responses agreed that smoking or vaping cannabis should be banned in public spaces and 52% said it should only be consumed in designated areas at public events.
