Whitecourt Town Council this week brought forward a motion to Council at the Policies and Priorities Meeting to renew their recycling contract for a year.
Adding a year to the recycling contract would allow for it to expire at the same time as the town’s garbage contract.
It also gives Council time to look at different options regarding waste management and collection, and potentially enhancing recycling opportunities.
Mayor Maryann Chichak discusses trying to keep waste out of the landfill.
Council also discussed the possibility of having a future local collection site for things like glass materials, which are currently not accepted in Whitecourt’s recycling program, for residents and business owners to use. The collection site would then take the materials to sites that accept them.
