Two Drayton Valley men are among 13 suspects that have been arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit for child luring and similar offences.
The arrests took place from February to October of 2018 as part of an eight-month proactive initiative by the ICE unit targeting suspects allegedly trying to arrange for sex with children.
A total of 69 charges have been laid, with arrests taking place in Edmonton, St. Albert, Wainwright, Drayton Valley, Fort Saskatchewan, Barrie, Ont. and the United States.
None of the investigations are related other than the similar nature of the offences. The alleged crimes took place online, with a range of social media platforms and communications tools being used. Nearly 50 computers and electronic devices were seized and analyzed as part of the arrests.
All of the men have been charged with at least child luring and/or attempted sexual assault against a child.
38-year-old Wilson Misay of Drayton Valley faces six charges and 42-year-old Yousef Ammar of Drayton Valley faces four charges.
During the investigations and subsequent arrests, ICE worked in collaboration with local police departments, RCMP and US Homeland Security.
