Woodlands County held their last council meeting of 2018 this week.
Council heard a request from the industrial park at the Woodlands airport for Council to take a look at the taxes, because taxes were higher than the Town of Whitecourt’s industrial taxes.
Council has now given the first reading to Bylaw 515, which deals with separating the non-residential taxes into two rates. The move will allow the County to maintain the regular tax base through larger players, while slightly lowering the tax rate for the industrial park and smaller commercial players.
Woodlands County Mayor Jim Rennie on the request.
Council also discussed the ongoing process of annexing a piece of land along Flats Road to the Town of Whitecourt, as well as planning an open house next month for discussion on a future highway bypass.
