The Town of Edson has sent a letter to the federal government in support of funding to fight the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic.

The pine beetle infestation is a growing concern in Western Canada, and the letter comes after the province requested $95 million dollars of funding over the next 5 years for the beetle problem.

The Mayor of Edson, Kevin Zahara explains his reasoning for sending the government a letter.

Zahara explained that the pine beetles have made their way from Jasper National Park into Hinton and is now starting to become a problem for Edson.

He says the funding would go towards removing the infested trees in order to slow down the infestation.
