A Stony Plain woman was arrested this week after drugs and a large quantity of stolen mail and identity documents were found in her home.
Following an investigation, on January 4th the Spruce Grove-Stony Plain Drug Section and Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Stony Plain.
In the home, they recovered a large quantity of stolen mail, stolen and fraudulent identity documents, stolen and fraudulent cheques and a small quantity of methamphetamine.
38-year-old Crystal Stebbings was arrested and faces 10 charges, including possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5000; unauthorized use of credit card data; draw an executive document without authorization, so as to defraud; identity theft; identity fraud; possession of methamphetamine (Crystal Meth); unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon; make/sell/possess instruments for making a forged document; theft, forgery, misuse of credit card; and possession of matter stolen from mail.
The investigation revealed that some of the victims did not realize they were victims of fraud and/or identity theft. Some of the documents located during the search warrant had been taken from recycling bins, some from the garbage. These documents were used to attempt to open credit card accounts.
Stebbings was released from custody after a judicial interim hearing on January 16th and appeared in Stony Plain Provincial Court February 6th.
She was out of custody on two separate recognizances. The first was stemming from an arrest in Edmonton in April 2018, which resulted in her being charged with possession of property obtained by crime and 25 additional charges. The second pertained to a July 2018 charge from Leduc for theft of a motor vehicle.
