Student Winners Announced as Whitecourt Mayors for a Day

The 2019 Mayor for a Day Initiative in Whitecourt will be hosted by the Youth Advisory Committee this year on March 25th.

At Whitecourt Town Council this week, Council announced the two students who will become Mayor for a Day on the 25th and get to shadow Mayor Chichak in her duties.

Tammy Knitter and Brooklyn Galliot, both Grade 6 students at Ecole St. Joseph School are this year’s winners, out of 16 submissions.

To qualify to become Mayor for a Day, youth had to submit essays on how Whitecourt could be improved. 16 submissions were received from Grade 6 students at both St. Joes and Percy Baxter School. Winners were then chosen by Town Council and by their peers on the Youth Council based on their views of how Whitecourt can be enhanced.

Each Mayor for a Day winner will receive a participation prize, in addition to shadowing the Mayor on March 25th.
