Hinton Youths Charged After Edson RCMP Officer Injured in Pursuit

An RCMP member of the Edson Integrated Traffic Unit suffered non-life threatening injuries on March 29th, after his police vehicle was struck by a stolen vehicle.

The member was on patrol in a fully marked police vehicle when he noticed a vehicle driving erratically in East Hardisty. The RCMP member attempted to stop the vehicle when it lost control and struck the police vehicle.

Responding RCMP members attended and took two male youths into custody. The involved RCMP member was taken to hospital via ground ambulance for treatment of broken bones.

The 15-year-old male driver from Hinton has been charged with numerous offences, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, driving uninsured on a highway, and operating a motor vehicle without holding a subsisting license.

The 15-year-old male passenger from Hinton is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Both youths have been released from custody and will appear in Hinton Provincial Court on May 1st, 2019.
