Lac Ste. Anne County and Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services are mourning the death of an active-duty firefighter who was killed in a collision on Friday near Barrhead.
In a post on their Facebook page Saturday, the County announced that 24-year-old Joshua Pare-White died suddenly on Friday. From Edmonton, he was based out of the Ste. Anne East Fire Station. In the post, the County described Pare-White as a “rising star” in the fire department who was full of energy.
In a news release on Saturday, Barrhead RCMP says officers responded to a two-vehicle collision south of Barrhead on Highway 33 and Township Road 574 around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Preliminary investigation revealed a car was rear-ended by a truck while attempting to turn onto a side road.
Tragically, the 24-year-old male driver of the car from Edmonton was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lac Ste. Anne County identified the driver as Pare-White in their online post the following day.
The adult male driver of the truck was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was later charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
The truck driver’s name cannot be released, as the charges have not yet been sworn in court.
