Whitecourt’s Rotary Park was closed to the public for a short time on Tuesday night, while police conducted an investigation. The Town of Whitecourt has released a statement about the incident.
Shortly after 5 pm on Tuesday evening, a black box was located in the park. Thinking it could have been a suspicious item, Bylaw officers and Whitecourt RCMP members closed the park off to residents during their investigation.
The Explosive Device Unit from Edmonton was called in to assist in the matter. They eventually deemed the item to be non-threatening and removed it.
The park was then reopened to the public at 7 pm.
