If you noticed some white fluffy pulp floating around downtown Whitecourt early Sunday morning, it was courtesy of Millar Western.

A sensor failure in Millar Western pulp mill’s drying system resulted in the “unintended discharge of a small volume of dried fluff pulp” to fall around a three-block radius of downtown.

In a statement, the Mill said they coordinated with Town officials to have the pulp cleaned up from area streets using street sweepers and other equipment on Sunday.

There were no environmental, health, or safety concerns from the pulp falling, and Millar Western says they are looking into the reason for the sensor failure.
