A local Whitecourt business is looking to help out a former Humboldt Bronco.
A-Tech Mechanical and A-Tech Innovation are building a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Ryan Straschnitzki to be able to drive himself around in. Straschnitzki was paralyzed from the chest down in the Bronco’s team bus crash a year ago.
Straschnitzki will be trying out for Team Alberta in Sledge Hockey and wants to hopefully make it on Team Canada, but getting to the practices is difficult for him when having to rely solely on family and friends to drive him around.
A-Tech Mechanical’s Cody Anderson reached out to Straschnitzki’s family and let them know that the company wanted to help out. Building the vehicle will take a lot of effort and around $50,000 to do, so A-Tech will be holding a fundraising event this Saturday, June 8th at Whitecourt’s St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.
Anderson explained more about building the vehicle and says the Build For A Bronco event will be a full night of activities.
Cocktails will start at 6 pm followed by dinner, a free dessert bar, live and silent auctions, a 50/50 draw and then entertainment provided by local comedian Ken ValGardsen and local singer Mackenzie Cortes. Straschnitzki himself will also be in attendance.
Tickets are still available until the night of the event. There is gold seating available at $650 for a table of 8, silver seating available at $575 for a table of 8, regular seating available at $480 a table, or $60 per individual ticket.
Tickets can be purchased at A-Tech Mechanical in Whitecourt, or by calling Cody at 780-779-7384 or Blaine at 780-779-8387.
