Woodlands County Council heard a presentation from STARS Air Ambulance at their meeting this week.
STARS presented a slideshow on the work they’ve done, including response numbers, around the county in the last five years.
Woodlands County then pledged their continued support to STARS, who largely rely on donations from industry, individuals, and municipalities for continued operation in the prairie provinces. The provincial government contributes 20 percent of funding.
Woodlands County Mayor Ron Govenlock says it’s important to support STARS for the vital service they provide in the area. He says the County has budgeted in the 2019 budget their contribution to STARS, which is $3 per capita through 2021.
In 2018, STARS responded 16 times in Woodlands County, and so far in 2019, they have responded to 5 missions. On average, STARS sees 18 missions a year in the county and has responded to 95 mission calls since 2014.
