Whitecourt RCMP has confirmed that a pedestrian was fatally struck on Highway 43 in Whitecourt on the morning of June 28.
RCMP and emergency crews responded at 5:00 a.m. to a call of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian on Highway 43 at 51 Street, and preliminary investigation revealed an SUV was traveling on the highway when it collided with a pedestrian.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old female pedestrian from Edson was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The eastbound lanes of the highway at the intersection of Highway 43 and 51 Street were closed for about three hours after the crash, with a detour put in place. One lane opened shortly after 8 a.m. with police presence still on scene.
The investigation is still ongoing, however no charges have been laid.
