Woodlands County residents are again trying to get their voices heard by County Council.

Over 160 residents signed a petition that accompanied a letter sent to Council. The letter requests Council to remove Mayor Ron Govenlock from the negotiating team during discussions with Whitecourt at the intermunicipal cost-share meetings. Govenlock is one of three Woodlands Council members on the negotiating team, along with three from Whitecourt Council.

Council discussed the letter at their meeting in Whitecourt on Tuesday. Some members of Council felt the letter was important and that residents’ feelings should be addressed, even going so far as to say the change should be made.

Ultimately, no action was taken on Tuesday. Instead, Council carried a motion to accept the letter as information, saying they would review members on the negotiating committee at the County’s organizational meeting in October.
