Two people facing charges in the abduction of three children from Fox Creek this summer will stand trial.

Charmaine Annette Darnel, 42, of Whitecourt is charged with three counts of abduction of a person under 14, assault, and uttering threats.

D’artangan Dirk Pool, 23, of Lethbridge faces charges that include three counts of abduction of a person under 14, assault, uttering threats and forcible confinement.

The pair were charged after three children aged four, three, and nine months were abducted from their home in Fox Creek in the early morning hours of June 1st. RCMP were notified of the abductions at 1:30 a.m. An Amber Alert was issued at 5:00 a.m., and about two hours later the children were located unharmed in the suspect vehicle north of Sylvan Lake with Darnel, the children’s mother, who was arrested.

Darnel and Pool have waived their right to a preliminary hearing and have elected to be tried by judge and jury. Dates for the trial have not been set.

The case is due back in Fox Creek Provincial Court on October 21 for arraignment.
