The Wastewater Treatment plant in Whitecourt will soon see the replacement of its microfiltration membrane system.

The membrane modules were originally installed in 2004 and after 15 years the time has come to replace them. Town Council this week authorized Pall Corporation to install the 132 new Pall Microfiltration membrane modules for a total of $350,000.

Mayor Maryann Chichak notes that the cost to replace the membranes is actually $450,000 cheaper now than what Council originally budgeted for when they were first installed. The initial quote was $800,000, and Chichak says the cost-reduction is a welcome surprise for the community.

Chichak says work to replace the membranes will start immediately and be completed over the coming months.
