Whitecourt’s Pumpjack Players Drama Society is getting ready to put on one of its biggest performances to date.
Pumpjacks members will be singing and dancing tonight as they open their musical production of “Chicago.” 18 actors, 14 musicians, and about 20 crew members have been working on the play since the start of September after auditions in August.
The play runs tonight and tomorrow night as well as next Friday and Saturday at the Whitecourt Community Centre, starting with cocktails at 6:00, dinner at 6:30 and then the show at 8:00. The full show is about two and a half hours long with a 20-minute intermission.
After taking a chance with the musical, director Jamie Betts says it’s been wonderful seeing the show almost sold out.
While Betts has directed other plays with Pumpjack Players, this is her first time taking on a musical after wanting more of a challenge in her theatre career. She says the audience is in for a fun night of music, dancing, laughter, and above all, a great display of local talent.
Tickets are almost sold out, but there are a few still available for next weekend. Tickets are $55.00 to $65.00 and can be purchased at the Whitecourt and District Public Library.
