More FireSmart work will be completed in the Town of Whitecourt over the next few months.
The Town was previously approved for a grant from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) to treat 20.7 hectares and retreat 22.7 hectares of Crown land using FireSmart principles and practices.
Town Council this week awarded the tender for the project to local company Wide Open Slashing for a total of $166,295, which is covered in the grant funding.
Mayor Maryann Chichak says the program is great for helping to prevent forest fires.
FireSmart vegetation treatment and retreatment will commence in Zones 22 and 23 as soon as possible and should be completed by the end of March 2020.
