As part of a reduction to the budget for 2020, Woodlands County Councillors will be taking a cut to their earnings this year.

Councillors discussed council remuneration this week and set a flat rate remuneration system for salaries of $50,000 for Councillors and $70,000 for the Mayor plus $15,000 per councillor for professional development to be used for conferences and workshops.

Woodlands County Mayor John Burrows says the remuneration system is in line with Council’s commitment to reducing the budget and makes it easier for Administration to keep track of payments.

With the 15% reduction, the total cost in the proposed 2020 budget for council remuneration including honoraria, travel/subsistence, and memberships/conferences comes to $453,000, which is $80,000 less than in 2019.
