Woodlands County Council last week awarded a proposal for a draft plan to be completed for the Whitecourt Airport.

Woodlands County has committed to growing and diversifying the Whitecourt Airport and late last year put forth a request for proposals for an updated airport master plan.

Council awarded the proposal to WSP Canada for a total of $64,970, which includes a $5000 contingency fund. The funds are included in the 2020 Capital Budget, and WSP will provide a draft plan to Council in late spring.

Woodlands County Mayor John Burrows says Council is trying to be proactive in planning ahead so they are ready for development opportunities.

The Airport Master Plan will include realistic and potential aviation and non-aviation enterprise options, and provide an overview of the socio-economic advantages to the facility being in the region, and how the airport impacts the local economy.
