The Whitecourt Taekwondo Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The club has a number of exciting events coming up to mark the milestone, including this weekend.
The club is hosting its 30th annual Taekwondo Championship at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre on Saturday starting at 10 am.
Head Instructor Jim Rennie says the skill level of competitors varies across many age groups.
Rennie says the club is excited to try out a new chest protector called “20/20 Armour”, which have digital bars on them to show competitors how much power they have left before being knocked out of the tournament. The equipment was featured on Dragon’s Den and Whitecourt is getting the chance to be the first in Canada to use them in a competition.
Rennie says the club also has an international tournament coming up next month that takes place at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
