Woodlands County Council received a presentation last week from Accurate Assessment Group, which provided an overview of the municipality’s assessment.
AAG compared the current 2019 assessment with the year prior and revealed that the overall assessment value has decreased by 4%.
County Mayor John Burrows says it was not really surprising for Council to hear of the decrease, considering the tough economic times they have faced.
AAG discussed how the change in oil pricing and the Covid-19 pandemic could impact the market value for the 2021 tax year as well.
Mayor Burrows said the continuation of oil companies not paying taxes could impact assessment next year. He also said that if the province changes its assessment model next year like planned, the County could lose more money.
