RCMP in Barrhead have arrested a man and charged him with a number of firearms offences.
On May 9th at approximately 2:45 am, RCMP were investigating a suspicious vehicle on a rural road west of Barrhead.
The vehicle was near a residence and after officers were done speaking with two occupants of the vehicle, a gunshot was heard.
An adult male who is believed to be an occupant of the vehicle came out of the bush after the shot was fired. Police determined the shot was not fired by him but by a second adult male who came out on the driveway of the residence. He was then arrested and charged.
A search warrant was conducted the same day at the residence and seven firearms were seized along with ammunition.
The accused is charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm while being reckless.
His name cannot be released until charges have been sworn in court. He has been released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Barrhead Provincial Court on July 14th.
