As with many other places around the local region, assessment values for properties in the Town of Whitecourt have gone down.
Whitecourt Town Council received an overview of 2020 assessment figures by the municipal assessor at this week’s meeting.
Assessment values for single-family homes have decreased by approximately 4.1% in the valley area and 2.4% in the hilltop area, while the average house value in Whitecourt is $329,200, down from $340,000.
Mayor Maryann Chichak says with the way the economy has been, Council expected values would be down.
Apart from residential, commercial and industrial values were also down, with hotels seeing a 10% decrease in assessment value.
