Woodlands County Council officially passed a Tax Incentive Bylaw this week, which will give a discount to those who pay their taxes this year on time.
Council had been floating the idea of an incentive for the past few weeks, in an effort to encourage residents and businesses to make full payments for property taxes on or before the due date of June 30th if they are able to.
Residential and farmland property taxes will receive a 3% reduction on the municipal levy portion of their notice, while non-residential property taxes will receive a 1% reduction on the municipal levy portion.
Mayor John Burrows says while helping residents out, it’s also a positive for the County as they will continue to have cashflow.
For residents who can’t pay taxes on time this year due to financial hardship amid COVID-19, the County has deferred payments until December 1st.
