Yellowhead County residents will now be charged for using the Edson Waste Transfer site.

Yellowhead County Council this week approved using the Town of Edson’s fee schedule for county users of the site.

County residents were historically exempt from user fees. However, the county says it is evident that the system is being abused, so now county users of the facility will be charged the minimum fee of $5.00 per use.

Council says it is estimated that the county will save about $60,000 in fees paid to the town.

Also at Council this week, Yellowhead County Council gave third reading to the Election Sign Bylaw 13.20.

The bylaw is meant to enforce election sign removal, and comes in response to a large number of signs that were littered throughout the county after the last municipal election.

The bylaw will penalize those who incorrectly fix or erect a sign or do not remove their signs following an election, and the penalty is a standard $100 fine per sign.
