There will be no Canadian Finals Rodeo in Red Deer this year.
Canadian Pro Rodeo Association (CPRA) officials, along with Westerner Park and the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce, announced this morning that they have made the “difficult decision” to postpone this year’s event until 2021.
The CPRA cited uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 health guidelines and the cancellation of many qualifying rodeos this summer as the main reasons. They added that the standard of excellence expected by fans and competitors at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) would not be achievable under the current circumstances.
The 47th edition of the CFR would have taken place for the third time in Red Deer from November 3rd to the 8th, 2020 at the Westerner Park Centrium.
Over 43,000 attendees were projected to watch over 100 competitors during the six-day championship event, generating an economic impact of approximately $37 million.
