Whitecourt RCMP have arrested a man and laid charges in connection to an armed bank robbery three years ago.

On June 9, 2017, the Scotiabank that was previously located in the Whitecourt mid-town mall was robbed by a lone male wearing a disguise. The male pointed what appeared to be a firearm at employees and stole a large sum of cash before fleeing the bank.

After an extensive investigation involving numerous RCMP support units and resources, along with tips from the public, the Whitecourt RCMP say they were able to identify the person believed to be responsible for the robbery.

On June 24, 2020, the Whitecourt RCMP arrested and charged Matthew James McDavid (33) of Whitecourt with the following offences:
• Robbery with a weapon
• Using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence
• Disguise with intent to commit an offence

McDavid was released to attend Whitecourt Provincial Court on August 11, 2020.
