The new school year is around the corner, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many families are opting to keep their children at home for online learning and homeschool education to start the year.
Parents in the Whitecourt area who do homeschool or are now considering it can get more information ahead of the school year.
Patty Marler with Homeschool.Today is doing a free presentation on homeschooling tonight, August 24th, at 7:00 in Whitecourt’s Rotary Park.
Homeschool.Today promotes homeschooling in Canada and is an online tool for parents who homeschool, with information and webinars. Marler says she will be explaining the benefits of home education and answering common questions for those interested in taking that route this school year.
Marler says the organization has seen an uptick in the number of people inquiring about homeschool in the last month, explaining the interest is “significant.”
Marler worked with the Alberta Home Education Association for seven years and has taught home school for 22 years. She is now looking to help out other parents by answering questions they may have.
Marler says the group will be meeting at the soccer fields in Rotary Park for 7:00 Monday night. People are welcome to bring lawn chairs and spread themselves out for social distancing.
There is also a local Facebook group, the Whitecourt Homeschool Association, that is available for people in Whitecourt and surrounding areas to join if they are interested in connecting with other local families.
