The Town of Whitecourt is moving forward with a pilot project that is aimed at developing a Community Diversification Plan that will attract investment and employment in the region.
The Town received a $70,000 Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) Grant for a Targeted Industrial Base Diversification, Resiliency, and Attraction Pilot Project.
With the grant money, the Town has now hired an investment consultant with industry knowledge, networks, and experience that will work with the Town to identify key industry trends and investment opportunities.
Mayor Maryann Chichak with more on the consultant chosen for the project, Ernst and Young LPP.
The project, which is expected to be completed within the next year, will work with existing small businesses on diversification opportunities. It will also actively pursue new investment opportunities that create new employment.
Mayor Chichak says it is an exciting project for the community and having the Community Diversification Plan in place will help the region find sustainability again after dealing with COVID-19.
