The Town of Edson and Yellowhead County have announced that the Joint Recreational Multi-Use Facility project has been approved for grant funding from both the federal and provincial governments to help with construction costs.
The project received $20 million in federal funding through Infrastructure Canada. The Provincial Government is providing over $16 million towards the project with Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) grant money for Edson and Yellowhead County.
MLA for West Yellowhead, Martin Long, said in a statement on social media that he is proud that “Alberta’s Government is investing in the construction of Edson’s new Multi-Use Recreational Complex, alongside Edson and Yellowhead County Mayors Kevin Zahara and Jim Eglinski.” Long also said he looks forward to “the positive impact the facility will have on the entire region.”
The remaining funds for the $70 million facility will come from the two municipal partners, Edson and Yellowhead County.
It’s expected that a project management firm will be hired this year, with more detailed designs coming in 2021.
